Pre-Requisite:
Your rat must already know how to play basketball before you start training this trick. If you'd like help training your rat basketball, you can find my tutorial on how to do so by clicking on the button below: |
Step 1:
Teach each rat to play basketball with their respective hoop. These sessions should be individual, and you want to practice until your rats can deliver the ball to the hoop from any part of the court.

Step 2:
Now add in the second hoop. Continue working one-on-one with each rat, until they can make a hoop on the correct side even when the ball is below the opposite hoop.

Step 3:
Now comes the difficult part. Bring out both rats, along with 2 balls. Reward each rat for placing a ball into their respective hoop. You may need to re-direct each rat to the task several times, so be patient and work at your rat's pace.

Step 4:
Once your rats are successfully playing with 2 balls, its time to remove one. In the beginning, you may need to reward one rat with slightly larger treats to give the slower rat a chance to make hoops. Once their confidence increases and they get better at stealing the ball from each other, you should be able to reward them with the same small treat each time they make a correct basket!
