Step 1:
Start by luring your rat inside the barrel and giving them a treat. Repeat this until your rat is comfortable hopping in and out of the barrel.

Lure your rat into the barrel and give them a treat. Next, place a treat outside the barrel (next to the side of the barrel your rat is on). When your rat leans forward to reach it (rocking the barrel forward), reach inside and give them a treat.

Begin to require your rat to step forward a step or so (inside the barrel) before handing them a treat.

Gradually require your rat to roll the barrel further and further. You can also begin to gradually increase the distance from which you cue your rat.

Finally, reward your rat for running to the barrel, getting inside, and running inside it back to you when you point at it!
